I have chosen vigorous repetition to free my painting of narrative and the sensation of events. Through this approach, I feel aligned with the larger patterns, the security of the repetitions of existence.
The random or concise use of primary elements such as dots and squares, or patterns and structures culled from oriental carpets and airport terminals do not speak of intelligence or culture. Rather, they suggest energies of motion and crystallization - ideas that are constant in my work.
I construct my work carefully, with multiple layers of paint, to achieve a luminous surface. This working process, time consuming and labor-intensive, helps me to negotiate the irrationalities of contemporary life.
