About the Artist CANDICE EISENFELD received her B.F.A. in Studio Art with honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 1995.
EISENFELD spends her days doing what she loves mostpainting. The daughter of an artist, Eisenfeld began drawing when she was eight-years-old. After graduating from high school, Eisenfeld attended the Bezalel School of Art in Jerusalem. She also studied ancient art history at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, prior to attending the University of Texas.
"I create art because I have a need to explore myself and share experiences with a wider community. I hope the viewer sees in my paintings a searching, a quest. There are mysteries involved and things to overcome, but, in the distance, there's light. There's hope. It's my belief that art can be an escape from reality rather than a depiction of reality," EISENFELD says.
CANDICE EISENFELD'S new body of work depicts regal landscape imagery. The moody totalist influences are reflective of British 19th Century landscapes. The layering of images in deep, rich colors offer spiritual ideas strongly immersed in historical reference. One of the liberating achievements of EISENFELD'S painting is the recognition of the autonomy of the physical materials of the painterthe pigment itself. She understands the amalgam of light, color, space, and paint.
EISENFELD entertains the idea of interactions between intellectual reasoning and fragmented memories of panoramic landscapes visited in dreamsa co-existence of opposites, the rational world and the spiritual world. To make a painting vital, decisions and choices come from that rascal blend of the conscious and the subconsciousa glimpse of something caught, kept, and shown before the dream fades and the day runs away.
According to one Scottsdale, Arizona fan of EISENFELD'S work, "What you first see in Candice's work is only the beginning of what's there. Anyone who's seriously interested in contemporary art should keep an eye on her."
