Two concerns have been central to TAMAR ZINN’S work for many years - the nature of light and the balance between suggesting a subject and defining it. ZINN’S creative process is rooted in the recognizable world yet expressed through abstract shapes. Recognizable are certain motifs of visible reality – a suggestion of urban structures, or a mass of buildings, all set in a light permeated haze. ZINN’S richly painted surfaces transform snapshots of facades, curtained windows, and architectural structures.

Along with exploring interior and exterior light, atmosphere and mass, ZINN’S colors and hues reflect the influence of minimalism in their cool, reductive look and geometric precision. Structural solidity is maintained in the colors and shapes all the while reducing the architectural references. Concrete, visible reality is transported in the constant presence of stripes that work as a pictorial device re-ordering the perceptual world from recognizable objects to subjective impressions of them.

ZINN’S re-ordering of our perceived world, as well as our inner moods, radiates immense energy imbuing the paintings with luminosity.
