Painting, for me, is a journey into the unknown. I strive to uncover and reveal the realm of life that resides in the unconscious, the part of life that is felt but not easily articulated.
I often begin a painting with an intention. This intention can be a vague idea or feeling or a concrete concern or interest. Lately the intersection of the natural world and the man made world has been a them running through my work.
The painting process is nonlinear and travels in a circuitous route. By adding and scraping paint I am searching for relationships and connections. With each painting I am looking for nuance and subtlety as well as boldness. I am in search of beauty that is off balanced and odd.
The challenge to uncover the elusive and inarticulate unconscious world keeps painting forever interesting and challenging.
