SHAWNA MOORE’S paintings evolve directly from her practice of journaling and freeform painting and drawing. Compressed into the layers of melted wax are MOORE’S insights, failings, breath and actions. Embodied in each panel are general truths about how she conducts her life.
MOORE is striving to develop a space where no distinction exists between natural imagery and artist made image. She finds herself experimenting with each piece, making marks so it speaks its own authentic language. She frequently makes her own tools using them in unintended ways: drawing, dragging, gouging, rubbing, dripping, throwing, dropping, adding, removing, ironing, fusing and buffing. MOORE’S work has been described as such that, "it is overall, indefinable, emotion that the piece elicits which keeps a person looking." MOORE hopes the viewer finds hope and mystery within the surface of the wax.
